Quotes by John Wooden with commentary

January 24th, 2011 by admin

“You can’t live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you. “
That is another of the great quotes by John Wooden.
What does the great coach and teacher mean by this? Is this perfect day even attainable? Well, I will give you my opinion of what it means. It means that you are going to do something for someone that will be such an unexpected blessing that they will feel the love and friendship emanating from you. It means you did something nice that went beyond monetary compensation – it was something you did to be nice to someone who needed it at the time. Maybe they were afraid to take up your time and didn’t want to bother you. I’m sure in Coach Wooden’s case he often had people who wanted to talk to him but they were afraid of wasting his time. Surely, if he took the time to help you with a problem you wouldn’t have been able to repay him – his time was very valuable. He had basketball players to teach! Toward the end of his life the few speeches he agreed to give were probably as expensive as an ex-president’s speech (and certainly more valuable) but the money was never his main goal. He wanted to be a teacher and help people. This quote stands on its own but perhaps he wishes you to think about helping someone else, and you might be surprised at the benefit you receive. It probably makes you feel better to help someone so much that they cannot repay you than to get paid some money. So everyone wins as usual when they read and think about quotes by John Wooden
